A GREAT COLLEGE GRADUATION PARTY IDEA CELEBRATE ON CAMPUS
As graduation loomed over Ann Arbor, I hit on a great college graduation party idea. I had listened to my son lament about the best four years of his life coming to end. The more I heard it, I began teasing them all that they were living in "Never Never Land". They absolutely did not want to leave University of Michigan nor their beloved home at the Pink & Purple.
Thus, the perfect theme ... PETER PAN!
Knowing my love of party planning, my son asked for some suggestions for their post graduation plans. In the end, they decided to invite all their families back to the house for lunch following the graduation.
It was a beautiful day. We had great seats in Michigan stadium. Bill Clinton was the keynote speaker. Best of all the boys actually hired a cleaning service to clean the Pink and Purple. Life was wonderful!
So below are the step by step instructions for helping your student plan a family graduation celebration right on campus.
Step 1 The kids plans for their campus college graduation party begin. They decided to hold it at the house. Our older son and his crew at Rutgers chose a local restaurant. That worked great too and was probably a bit easier for the kids. However these guys wanted to have it at the Pink & Purple..so organization was key. First detail: A head count. Then they all needed assignments. One calls different places to get costs. One collects the monies. They did theirs based on a per person amount which was very smart. (Of course, the parents actually pay!) Another purchases all the paper goods. Yet another gets the soda and beer. With this all done ahead, others had food pick up duties.
Step 2 The crazy mom advised that party favors were a must for all their guests. I volunteered for this fun project and decided on "Michigan" pins made out of bottle caps. Once done, they were wrapped and put in a big basket on the buffet table. Everyone loved them and was wearing them! The little poem that was attached made them all the more humorous.
STEP 3 COOKIES FOR DESSERT.. A HUGE HIT!!! I baked and individually wrapped dozens of cookies, in all varieties and actually brought them with me from New Jersey to Michigan. Use plastic wrap to wrap each cookie, they stay fresher and do not crumble! As you may have seen on other pages in the site... Betty Crocker Cookie Mix In A Bag! It may be the easiest and best product they make. I did Chocolate Chips and threw in Blue and Yellow M&M's representing the Michigan school colors. Sugar cookies topped with blue and yellow sprinkles. Finally peanut butter with Reese's peanut butter cups on top. All stored in the reusable Ziploc storage containers. Baked on Thursday, got to Michigan on Friday and they were still fresh by Saturday afternoon!
STEP 4 What would a college graduation party be without GIFTS FOR THE GRADS.. you are NEVER too old for "goody bags". So to announce their gifts... One final poem, which you can see below!
STEP 5 Of course carrying through on a Peter Pan themed college graduation party idea.. personalized t-shirts were just perfect! Here is the logo I made and put on yellow t-shirts for each of them. Learn how to make personalized t-shirts here or visit Cafe Press and they will do it for you.
They will put it on t-shirts, hats, and many other items. Here are my boys on the steps of the Pink & Purple at the party. A couple of them already put on their yellow Peter Pan shirts. They were a hit!
