Inexpensive Wedding Ideas
Wedding items you can make yourself to save money
After 2 weddings in under a year, we found some inexpensive wedding ideas that helped us save money. As you are planning a wedding there are numerous small items you can easily make yourself and the savings are large. If you are short on time, ask for help. Bridal party, family and friends will surely take an evening or afternoon help you with these ideas. Take a look at some the wedding and reception items we did on our own.
What can you do yourself for cost savings as you plan your wedding?Programs: There are great packaged wedding programs that you can easily make yourself without a lot of computer skills. We brought the blank programs at an office supply store and used their free online template for Microsoft word. Cost of wedding programs: $38.76 for 150 blank programs, half an ink cartridge and 2 hours of work formatting and printing them. Our lowest original estimate to get 150 8.5 x 11" folded programs, printed on all 4 sides in one color: $125.00. So this is definately is a good inexpensive wedding idea!

Reception Menu: venues usually charge anywhere from .50 to $1.00 for menus at each seat. You have two options here.. make individual ones yourself on high quality cardstock. I have seen where the menu is framed and put at the table. However, I think it detracts from your centerpieces. I used Microsoft Word again, designed the menus, 2 to a page and printed on antiqued card stock and cut in half. Total cost for 150 menus including ink: $13.05 plus 1 hour of my time. This is another inexpensive wedding idea. Look at the savings!

Place Cards: Here's another item you can do yourself and save money. Venues may provide individual placecards for minimal fees. However, it is your responsibility to complete them. So you either have to find a calligrapher or handwrite them yourself. We found elegant embossed champagne colored ones in the office supply store that you print yourself and then tear apart on the perforated lines. I was skeptical at first. But they printed perfectly using the free online template in the box and came apart cleanly. Total cost for 100 placecards and ink - $10.48 plus one hour of my time. A huge saving over the calligraphy estimate we received of $.50 per card!

Gift bags for out of town guests: Don't buy pre-packaged baskets or gift bags. You can make them yourself for a fraction of the cost and personalize them for your guests. Once you have them planned, filling them is fun!
