Learn to make a winter snowflake lantern

easy christmas craft

Here's and easy Christmas craft idea that can displayed all winter.  A beautiful snowflake luminary.  It takes little to no crafting ability but the end result is a sparkling and gorgeous lantern.  This would be a perfect hostess gift for a holiday party! We love that these pretty lanterns don't have to go into the attic with the rest of the Christmas decorations. These are so lovely they can stay up all winter long. So, let's get started..

Supplies for this easy Christmas craft idea- this is all you need

Here are the supplies you need to have on hand to make the Holiday luminaries.  A glue gun, ribbon and these supplies all easily available on Amazon.

First you need Mod Podge Waterbase Sealer, Glue and Finish (16-Ounce), CS11202 Gloss Finish Make sure to get the gloss finish for a better result. Next you need sponge craft brushes to apply the modgepodge. You can find them at any craft store or get them here from Amazon 1 inch Foam Sponge Wood Handle Paint Brush Set- Lightweight, durable and great for Crafts, Glitter Sparkling Crystals (91830), Silk Snowflakes and finally Jarden Home Brands Ball 12PK QT Smooth Jar. It is important that you find the smooth mason jars to create the best result. The jar with the raised emblems and script do not come out as nice.

Now let's make our Holiday lanterns

Step one, with your glue gun apply the silk snowflakes randomly around the jar. I put a shot of glue in the center of each snowflake and then pressed so that the glue spread. It is ok if some of the flake ends are not secured down. The modge podge will hold them in place.

Step two, apply the modge podge one section at a time on the jar

Step three, after you modge podge one section, sprinkle the snow like glitter on that section while it is still wet.  Then repeat until you have the whole jar covered with the modgepodge and glitter.  Set on a piece of wax paper to dry.  Once dried glue gun the ribbon of your choice around the rim.

Next add your lights. You can use a votive candle or we prefer these Set of 5 Micro LED 20 Warm White Lights Battery Operated on 7ft Long Silver Color Ultra Thin String Wire, with timer, 6 hours on/18 hours off and insert them into the decorated jar! Could this holiday craft be any easier??

Look at how pretty these are even unlit! Then see the beauty when they are lit up. I added colored lights to the lantern on the right. This easy Christmas craft idea is a big success!
